Chapter 12 - Last confessions



Sonic's POV
The sun wasn't even rising when we started walking. The final battle was approaching. And we had to have everything ready for not being defeated.

- There it is - Caliburn said, after two hours of walking - The battlefield.

We stopped of the last mountain's slope. While giving orders to prepare the armor and swords, I looked at the Morgane and Mordred's castle, there in the background.
"I'm going to destroy you. Just wait and see ..." I thought, clenchingmy fist. I had promised Amy that everything would be fine and we would return home safely. When I made a promise I fulfilled it. And this time, it wouldn't be an exception.


A few hours later ...


Amy's POV
- Here's your sword and armor. Fresh and clean! - Tails said, trying to hide his fear and nervousness in a cheerful voice. I tried to smile at him.
- Thank you - I said. I looked at my weapons for a few seconds and sighed.
- Do you think that everything is going to be ok, in the end? - I asked. The fox looked at me, a little worried.
- I don't know ...  but Sonic promised that everything would be okay. And you know that Sonic fullfils his promises.
- Yes, but ... what if he can't fullfil this one?
Tails looked slightly down.

- I don't know... - he answered in a whisper. I sighed and hugged him.
- We hope that he can make it... but for that we must help him. Right? - I said looking at him. The young two-tailed fox smiled and said nodded. I smiled back. I looked at the sky. The sun was starting to set. I decided to talk to Sonic, who was preparing the battle plan with Sorius.

- The elves will attackfirst with their bows and arrows at the top of the mountain. After, the griffins will atack in flight. After, the cheehtas and leopard will go forward, the lions, then the cavalry and only then the soldiers will move... - he was saying, while the centaur nodded.
- Sonic? Are you going to take long? - I asked. The blue hedgehog's head moved, looking away from the papers to my face.
- I'm almost done. Give me just a few more minutes - he said. I nodded and sat on a rock, followed by a brief  whispered "Ok". A few minutes later, Sonic came to me. I got up.

- Is everything ready? - I asked.
- Yes - he replied, with a slight nod - Did you want to tell me somethin'?
- Yes - I sighed. - I just wanted to tell you ... well ...
I swallowed.
- I. .. I have a small feeling that this may be the end ... and so...
Sonic smiled.
- Where did I hear this before...? - He said, smiling.

- Yeah... but this time ... this feeling is even stronger than before. - I sighed - Sonic ... I just want you to know ... you were one of the best friends I've ever had in my whole life. And ... I'm sorry if ... well ... If I was a bother... for all these years.

I swallowed. I wanted to tell him this for a long time. Not sure why... I just needed to say it. And now, the nervousness was beginning to take hold of me ...


Sonic's POV
I looked at Amy. She, a bother? Why would she think that?

- What? You are not a bother to me. In fact, I really like your company.
I stopped suddenly and felt my heart speeding up by saying those words. Amy looked at me.
- R-Really?
- Yes, You've always been one of the best friends I've ever had. You've been always by my side in good and bad times. - I said, smiling at her. Amy smiled back and circled her arms around my waist. I was a little surprised with that action, but I hugged her back.

- I like you a lot, Sonikku ... you're one of the best friends I've ever had too.
I smiled at her words. And I had the strange feeling ... that I didn't wanted to let go of her. I hugged her tighter. If that would be the end... I wanted at least to spend my last moments with the ones I liked most.

Silver's POV
I felt a slight breeze through my cheek and I opened my eyes slowly. It was still night, and it could only be heard the sounds of crickets and cicadas outside. I looked around. No one was in the tent.

- Blaze? - I asked. A breeze crossed my face again. I looked and saw that the entrance of the tent was open. I went outside. On the top of a hill, was a violet silhouette shining in the moonlight. I smiled and started walking. The cat's ears moved toward the sound of my footsteps and Blaze turned back.

- What are you doing here at this time of the night? - I asked, sitting down beside her. Blaze shrugged.
- I was just looking at the moon. I couldn't slee ...
- Because of the tomorrow's battle? - The purple cat sighed.
- Yes.
A brief moment of silence followed. Her violet fur glowed in the moonlight. Her honey-coloured eyes sparkled with the stars' glow.

"She's so beautiful ... and I love her so much ..." I said in thought, smiling to myself.


Blaze's POV
- It's... I have the feeling that this might be the end ... - I said, looking down. I sighed and looked at Silver - I'm afraid, Silver. I am really and trully afraid.
I didn't know very well what I was doing. I had never told anyone that I was afraid of anything. No one. And I felt that Silver got a little surprised with my confession.
- Are you afraid of dying? - He asked, looking at me.
- No. I'm afraid of... regreting anything.
- How?
- Regret of not telling or making something that I really needed to do.
- Ah ... I see ... - said the white hedgehog, looking at the moon. A brief moment of silence was followed again.

- I understand you, B. I also have that fear ... - said Silver, looking at me again.
- So ... you'd also regret something you didn't do if you died?
- Yes.
- And... what is it? - I asked, curious. He looked at me deeply in my eyes and his cheeks got a bit shaded of red.
- This - he said, approaching me, making our lips touched. My heart quickened and my eyes widened in shock. But soon it closed and I kissed him back. Very gently and without stop kissing me, Silver began to push me softly. I let myself lean back until I felt the cool grass touching on my back. The hedgehog got on the top of me and started to slide down his hand on my waist. My fingers softly interlaced on  Silvers' long quills . We stood there for a few minutes until he stoped and looked at me.

- I love you, Blaze. I always loved you - he said, with a smile on his face. I smiled back.
- I love you too, Silver - I told him. The white hedgehog kissed me again and layed down beside me.
- Now I'm not afraid of anything - he said, placing his hand on my cheek.
- Neither do I, Silv. Neither do I ... - I answered. Our eyes began to weigh and we fell asleep, hugging eachother...

 Amy's POV
I grabbed my horse's bridles, as if they were the only way for me to bear the fear and to not fall into despair. Behind me, a sea of ​​soldiers stared at the horizon, waiting for their enemies. Sonic walked forward, on the top of his horse.

- My friends - he said out loud - the battle is near. Don't be afraid. Fight bravely. You are the key to defeat the enemy and save this kingdom. We will always have strength inside us. We will never be forgotten. Fight for what you love, follow your dreams and never give up!

When he finished his speech, he stood beside me, waiting for the enemy. Far way, a sea of ​​werewolves and other dark and terrible monsters arived, followed by Morgane Mordered. From the top of the mountain, several arrows flew toward that black sea. When the rain of arrows stopped falling, Sonic looked at me.
- Until the end -  he said.
- Until the end - I said.
- For the kingdom of Camelot and the Round Table, fight! - He shouted. His horse began to run. I let out a war scream and my horse started galloping too. I grabbed my sword tightly. I took a deep breath before feeling the first clash...
